At Year 9 and beyond all pupils at Appleford are enrolled on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. This nationally recognised scheme presents pupils with a range of challenges which develop such important skills as commitment, determination, team work, independence and fair mindedness.
To achieve each level (Bronze, Silver and Gold) pupils must engage in aspects of voluntary service, personal interest, physical fitness and undertake a self-supported expedition. Each section of the DofE programme helps pupils to develop their confidence, improve their self-esteem and feel fitter and healthier through the Physical and Expedition sections.
Without a doubt the DofE programme gives our pupils a unique experience, developing soft skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership and resilience, becoming resourceful and independent thinkers.
