Head of Boarding

Mr Manning Head of Boarding, who oversees the Houseparents and their teams of staff to ensure that Boarders are all fully supported.

Boarding is a real strength and very much part of Appleford life. Our Houses reflect the need to create warm, nurturing ‘homes’ for our children and our excellent staff work tirelessly to ensure that this is achieved.

Boarding Houses

There are three boarding houses, two onsite, and one in the village of Shrewton (Cedar). Pupils are accommodated within their age groups, within inviting, spacious rooms. Each Boarding House has its own unique common room, decorated by the Houseparents and children, where the children can relax in the evenings.

There are age-appropriate books, games, DVDs and a smart television in each common room, inviting children to mix and socialise with each other outside of school, or, take some time away. Facilities for the Boarders include kitchen areas where drinks/snacks and evening supper can be prepared by the pupils as part of their personal independence.

Home Cooked Meals

Lunch and evening meals are home cooked on-site by our dedicated catering team, including full roast dinners every Sunday. We have breakfast most days in the Boarding Houses, but are treated to a full English Breakfast on Saturday mornings. Weekly menus can be viewed on the parent portal and take different dietary and cultural requirements into account where needed.

Boarding Life

As well as the various clubs and activities that your child may attend during the week, there are always varied activities planned for evenings and weekends: from simple nature walks to days out at a theme park; a dance off to a badminton tournament; a baking afternoon to a karaoke night, the list is endless.  There are normally seven exeats within the academic year, two/three exeat weekends per term, when all pupils go home or to a guardian in the UK.

Appleford also operates a ‘flexi boarding’ facility which allows for day pupils to ‘stay over’ whenever required. Requests can be made via the Registrar and are subject to availability. registrar@appleford.wilts.sch.uk
