Appleford School Where Dyslexics Succeed
Appleford is a special educational needs school for boys and girls, aged 7-16 years, with Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties such as:
- Dyspraxia
- Dyscalculia
- Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD
We are a day, weekly and full boarding school with a small, warm and caring community, where every child matters and this has been the key to over 20 years of successfully helping children with learning difficulties.
There is a whole school approach using research-based multi-sensory programmes and resources. A full National Curriculum is taught which falls in line with the school’s DfES approval as a Residential Special School. Pupils are taught in small groups of 7-12 with the additional benefit of a Learning Support Assistant in all English lessons and some Maths lessons. These subjects are taught in the mornings and other National Curriculum subjects are taught in the afternoons.
All pupils have an Individualised Educational Program and there is on-site support from an Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist. There is access to our psychologist and counselling is available as necessary. We are an open school and teaching staff are available to meet with parents every Friday or by appointment at other times to discuss your child’s academic, pastoral and social needs.
On the approved CReSTeD register
All schools approved by the Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic Pupils (CReSTeD) are visited regularly to ensure they continue to meet the criteria set by CReSTeD. Appleford has been approved under category 'SP' as a specialist dyslexic school offering a detailed structured curriculum which is taught within small groups of 7-12 pupils.
