Sports Day

The sun shone gloriously again on Appleford Sports Day. Field events took place in the morning, with many pupils gaining personal bests. The afternoon saw fiercely contested track event races and relays with parents and friends cheering on the participants, sipping much appreciated ice cold drinks served by the Friends of Appleford.
The tug-of-war was an incredibly close match with vociferous encouragement from pupils, staff and visitors. The overall winning team was Pluto, who were exultant in their long awaited victory. It was the first time in memory that Pluto has ever won a Sports Day event. A marvellous effort by everyone involved.

A parent wrote: “I thought it a really lovely occasion and was delighted to hear of the two silver and one gold collected by your 18 pupils representing Appleford at the National Independent Schools Athletics Championships. What a wonderful achievement. I was also very impressed and rather touched to see the delightful way not only between your staff and your pupils but also between the pupils themselves in their encouragement and also congratulations to each other in the various events held during the afternoon.
I just wish more schools would introduce this behaviour between their pupils.”
