ISA Athletics Championships

This year Appleford had the honour of organizing the South West Regional Athletics Championships for independent schools across the region. Thanks to much hard work by Head of Games, Mr Fielder and his team, this event was held at Exeter Arena in Devon and proved a great success.

Appleford pupils excelled with 18 pupils winning their events and therefore being selected to go forward to the National Championships in Birmingham, where we won a Gold (breaking the national javelin record) and two Silver medals.

A parent attending the event wrote the following:

“We wanted to feedback about how well the children performed at the Nationals on Tuesday.

Not only did we observe an excellent level of sportsmanship demonstrated on the day but we observed the following:

  • Back room support – no child went hungry or thirsty! The organisation that went on beforehand was clearly evident. Executed in military precision. Impressive.
  • Impeccable behaviour from the moment they all stepped off the bus to the time they departed.
  • The dedicated teachers were helping them above and beyond in every aspect to ensure each child achieved their very best.
  • Just getting to the start line of the Nationals has been a real achievement for all those children who attended and there was no question that they were all proud to be representing Appleford.

A big thank you to all the staff, children, catering staff and well done for making it your best year so far.”
