Pupils cycle from Devizes to Westminster

Cycle-Challenge-177Thirty pupils aged from 7 to 14 and seven members of staff , took part in the school’s annual challenge and pedal-powered their way (on average 38 miles per day) from Devizes to Westminster, on a four-day event, camping by the Kennet and Avon Canal and Thames along the way.

They arrived to a heroes welcome at the finish line outside the Palace of Westminster by fellow pupils, staff and parents, ready to be taken around the House of Commons and the parliamentary lobbies by Salisbury MP John Glen.

Head of Games Mark Ball said: “I’m so proud of the children; they all excelled themselves in this year’s challenge and should be proud of their amazing achievement.”

Mr Glen said: “It was clear all the pupils enjoyed the experience, and the whole school showed real community spirit in coming together to celebrate.

“I hope the opportunity to see the House of Commons itself really inspired the pupils, and I look forward to visiting the thriving Appleford School community in the next few months.
