Year 7 Evacuation Day

Posted: 9th November 2021

Year 7 enjoyed participating in an Evacuation day. They spent the morning preparing for their evacuation by deciding what they would put in their evacuation suitcase. They also created their own labels, identification cards, gas masks and gas mask boxes. When the siren sounded, Year 7 went down into the school cellar for safety! Afterwards, they boarded ‘the train’ where they enjoyed flapjacks. When they arrived in the ‘countryside’, they were greeted by lots of adults who decided if they wanted to take them home or not!

After lunch, our children helped their host families by tasting new sandwich fillers (spam was surprisingly popular) and making wartime sandwiches. They also enjoyed other jobs like a ‘Make Do and Mend’ activity sewing patches onto old clothes and fabrics and building an Anderson Shelter. At the end of the day, the evacuees were rewarded for completing  their afternoon jobs with a tasty piece of honey cake. A great day was had by all!
