05/09/15 – Outstanding in all categories

Appleford was recently inspected by Ofsted and received the top grade ‘Outstanding’ in all categories.

Headmaster, Mr David King said “We are all delighted with the report which recognises that our students’ excellent outcomes are a result of the school’s relentless commitment to enabling every pupil to achieve their potential”.

The areas of the inspection judged to be ‘Outstanding’ by the inspectors were: the overall effectiveness of boarding; the outcomes for pupils; the quality of boarding provision and pastoral care; residential pupils’ safety; the leadership and management of the school.

The inspectors felt that “the pupils have exceptionally good quality relationships with the staff and make exceptional progress from their starting points at the school. This is especially noticeable in their increased self-confidence and self-esteem. The staff have very high expectations and aspirations for the pupils they care for and this drive is central to all work undertaken by the staff team.”

Headmaster, David King said “Alongside our achievement of ‘Excellent’ from the Independent Schools Inspectorate for our academic provision, we are absolutely delighted with this truly outstanding report for our boarding provision. It confirms the staff’s dedication to our pupils. Head of Boarding, Sarah Dubique added that “we were very pleased that the pupils’ excellent standard of behaviour were noted by the inspectors. At Appleford all staff have high aspirations for the pupils and great attention is paid to every detail of their lives, enabling them to approach life confidently and with enthusiasm”.

The school is currently extending its facilities to accommodate a new 6th Form, which will be opening its doors for the first time in September this year.
